S&S News: 'Sony forced Microsoft's hand, not the internet whining', says Bleszinski

Gears of War designer and former Epic Games man Cliff Bleszinski has said it was Sony, not the internet whining that forced Microsoft to reverse their policies.

Microsoft announced yesterday the complete withdrawal of the Xbox One's controversial used game restrictions and internet requirement for online license checks once every 24 hours, the same policies that Cliff Bleszinski constantly defended.

"Sony forced Microsoft's hand, not the internet whining," said Bleszinski via Twitter.

The designer also commented, "At the end of the day many hardcore dislike what was attempted. You can't do well in that space with many of your core unhappy. Especially when users have a choice. The nature of capitalism encourages competition and Sony played into that."

He also said that developers will now add in more DLC and micro-transactions to try and maximize their revenue.

"Brace yourselves. More tacked on multiplayer and DLC are coming," he said. "You're also about to see available microtransactions skyrocket.

"You're going to see digital versions of your favorite games with added 'features' and content to lure you to digital over disc based. 'Do whatever it takes to keep that disc in that tray' is the mantra of developers in a disc based world," Bleszinski went on.

"I want *developers* who worked their asses off to see money on every copy of their game that is sold instead of Gamestop. Fuck me, right?" he commented.

  1. Another microsoft employee (indirectly) with his head up his arse. Sony blatantly made those differences a focused talking point *because* of the public outcry. So, yeah, M$ made the changes to match Sony (*sarcasm*).

  2. Yet another out of touch, elitist asshole. I got news for you Cliff, this is how the market is supposed to work. The customers voiced their disapproval with their voices and wallets, and the company listened. I guess in your world the customers should just take whatever the company provides and say thank you no matter what.

CliffyB is an asshole and an idiot who drives a 200k Lamborghini and expects gamers to bend over and be fucked in the ass by his anti-consumer policies. Who cares if publishers add more micro transactions and DLC? At least that is optional content and gives consumers a choice. What we don't want are the anti-consumer policies that CliffyB championed, such as not allowing consumers full ownership rights of their game purchases and the 24 hour internet check.
He's nothing but a rich douchebag who wants to screw consumers over so that he can get richer while everyone else suffers.
Also what is this dickwad even working on now? I highly encourage everyone to NOT buy whatever he's working on now.
