Candy Crush Dev trademarks “Candy”, begins asking developers to remove games from iOS store
Candy Crush Saga maker King claims similar titles will lead to “consumer confusion”.
Game developers are beiing hit with legal notices from King.com about the use of the word “candy” in their game titles.
The maker of Candy Crush Saga now owns the trademark to the word “candy” as it relates to games (and clothing, apparently), and it is now stating that any game in Apple’s iOS store that uses the word is infringing on its IP rights.
King is asking games with the word “candy” in them to be removed from the App Store.
One developer to feel the wrath of King is Ben Hsu, maker of All Candy Casino Slots.
“Your use of CANDY SLOTS in your app icon uses our CANDY trademark exactly, for identical goods, which amounts to trademark infringement and is likely to lead to consumer confusion and damage to our brand,” reads a note from Candy’s legal team, as reported by Gamezebo.com.
“The addition of only the descriptive term “SLOTS” does nothing to lessen the likelihood of confusion”

Who the hell cares about indie games except for bloggers and faux gamers. You'd have to be a complete and total idiot if you bought the PS4 and/or Xbox One to play indie games that you can find for $10 on the PC.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Microsoft isn't wasting time on indie games because in the past 10 years there really have been only a handful worth playing and even though I own ever console to ever exist I have those handful of indie games playing on a ten year old computer. If they can play on a 10 year old computer that mean two things, 1. I built a badass computer and 2. indie games are a waste on the PS4 and Xbox One.
"Candy" isn't even a distinctive mark in mobile gaming. All Candy Casino Slots doesn't even sound like it's the same game. Confusion, someone is being way too loose with their use of that word.
ReplyDeleteI really should stop posting comments. xD I do it so much here...
Good luck! The more I hear about these steam machines the more I grow to find them pointless. The price, the specs, the purpose, and now the lifecycle of some of them is just bizarre. Why wouldn't someone just build their own pc. Most steam games don't even require a god-tier pc. The price would be better than what I've seen quoted for steam machines.
ReplyDeleteHaha post at your heart's content
ReplyDeleteI'm still curious about a couple of the steam machines, especially what games will come to the SteamOS
ReplyDeleteLike it or not, indies will be prevalent on consoles. Look at how hard MS and Sony have been pursuing devs, they will be around a lot more this gen.
