Watch Dogs was not perfect in any way, Watch Dogs 2 will take more risks, says dev

Watch Dogs' creative director Jonathan Morin has admitted that the game was not perfect "in any way" and that there's still plenty of "room for improvement" in a sequel.

"I don't think Watch Dogs is perfect in any way and there's a lot of room for improvement," Morin said while looking back on last year's 'hacktion' title with GamesTM. "But you don't always see this when you ship a game. We deliver what we believe the brand should be at the time.

"But afterward, when you cool down after five and a half years [of development] and take your vacations and people play the game, certain elements become clear. They let you continue to bring what you envision to the next level with the fans included this time, which is where I think it really gets interesting."

While Ubisoft has yet to formally announce Watch Dogs 2, CEO Yves Guillemot suggested that a new game in the series could be in development last year.

"When you start a new project [and new IP], it's a blank page and everything you do is what you want to do," Morin added. "With a sequel, there is more pressure to push a brand forward and we now have to appeal to fans in a new way."

One way to achieve this, he says, is to "carry on taking risks".

"I will not do this job if there is no risk in it, that would just be boring," he adds. "You shouldn't prevent yourself from trying something just because it's hard and the solution is not apparent."

He continues: "We have to give [the development team] something hard to do. If we don't, they could fade out, which means you don't benefit from their knowledge or they will leave. Our team is really assimilated with the challenge we have and who knows where it will lead us next."

  1. Maybe taking a risk will make it more interesting instead of a Uni collectathon open world generic game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  2. I call Bullshit. Everyone with half a brain understands the present-day DLC game. The fact that ANY extra content is announced even BEFORE a game hits shelves is ridiculous. How about getting a WORKING game in the consumers hands, then (and only then) even think about announcing "extra" content.

If you can declare DLC prior to a game's release, I'm sorry, but that shit needs to be included for FREE while you work on the "real" extra content. It would make more sense to just focus on the damned game rather than what crap we can make money on a week after it's released.

So sick of hearing about "extra" stuff when the game discs haven't even been pressed. I'd be less irritated if these greedy companies just slapped a $90 price tag on the stupid game and you get all the extra nonsense free for life. I'm one of those consumers who drop the $65 and not a penny more. DLC-be-damned. Screw you guys. End cost for a friggin' videogame is upwards of $100... Kiss my ass. The way these games have been broken on release these days, you're lucky to get the $65 in the first place. DLC??? Good luck with that shit.
